Packing marks the beginning...
Life on the road is hard, but leaving your life on the farm you left behind is harder. The memories of good and bad times were packed into various bags and suitcases only to then be thrown into a rugged, couple-hundred miles and a half till' broken down car on the road to California or any other hope filled destination. This image is one of many that represent the many signs or posts being sent into the dirt after families decided to pack and sell their belongings so that they may leave their old life behind for the new sparkly one ahead. This was a major theme in the late 1930's and early 1940's as it was represented by the Joads in "Grapes of Wrath."
