Images of the World Turtle from different cultures around the world
Subject
Many Native American creation myths revolve around the turtle as one that's carrying the world on its shell. Grapes of Wrath has a chapter devoted to a turtle which seems quixotic at first, but taking into account the Native American relationship to the land and animals, as well as understanding their incorporation of those elements into their mythology, the reader can understand the Joads' relationship to the land as similar to the Native Americans.
