The grapes of wrath

Dublin Core

Title

The grapes of wrath

Subject

Conrad's cartoon was inspired by the shooting death of two migrant field workers in the 1973 strike against California grape growers. On August 15th and 16th in two separate incidents, two workers were killed in confrontations; one, in a barroom brawl and the other, while picketing at a winery near Bakersfield, California. On August 18 in Northern California, thousands of people took part in a memorial march honoring the two dead workers. Conrad uses John Steinbeck's famous novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939), as an analogy to the present day situation.

Description

A bunch of bullets grow on a grape vine. Two of the bullets have been fired and the empty shells are smoking
